“And they overcame him [Satan] by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony.” – Revelation 12:11 (KJV)
Revelation is often a book associated with the end times and the future that is to come. And it very much is. But this passage describes a truth that is timeless. This beautiful nugget of wisdom echoes throughout history over and over again as a universal law we can rely on.
Yes, there is an enemy who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy. But two things give us hope to come out victorious: the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross, and our stories of how that sacrifice set us free from Satan’s influence.
Read the passage again. Hope comes in the form of story. Our story. Not just the story of John the Apostle or Mother Theresa or Martin Luther or Dr. Martin Luthor King Jr. Ours. Yours and mine.
So, if our stories are so important, why does it feel so scary, unimportant, embarrassing, and worthless to share? Well, Satan. He is prowling around telling us lies and convincing us of these lies. And he tells them to all of us. The same kinds of lies on repeat.
I’ve spoken to hundreds of men and women who’ve all agreed they hear the same lies in their mind. They may hear them in their own voice, or their parents’ voices, etc., but the same kinds of lies are present.
“Your story won’t help anyone.” – Lucifer
“No one cares what you have to say.” – Satan
“No one will accept you because of what you’ve done.” – The Enemy
“People will judge you and laughing at you.” – The Dragon
“You’ll look like a fool.” – Father of Lies
The enemy does not choose to tell you these things because they have truth. His whole strategy is to convince you of lies so you’ll stop sharing your story. If you stop sharing, or never start, then Satan has won. He has successfully caged you and rendered you useless as a prisoner of war in your own mind.
Why is it SO HARD to tell your testimony? Simply BECAUSE it’s so powerful. It’s God’s story of how He’s worked in your life. The Holy Spirit has mighty power when we allow Him to be heard through our simple, human words.
God’s power takes over and spreads. He plants seeds. He creates good soil. And yet, God chooses to accomplish this through our stories. We are invited into His story to do something magnificent. Each time we tell our testimony, His healing power touches the speaker as well as the listener. The effect is multiplied and God’s Kingdom expanded, while Satan’s territory loses ground.
Then the Father of Lies throws a tantrum and tells us more lies, because that’s what he’s good at. He tries to make us feel like the lies are true.
But, oh, precious child! Your story was important to God even before He created the earth (Ephesian 1:4). He chose you and set you apart as Holy before you were born. You never had to lift a finger to be valued. You don’t have to be perfect or do something amazing or be popular or recognized by the world. God determined your importance. God determined your story powerful.
So, no matter how terrible or simple or scary it may seem to tell your story. Remember, that “seeming” feeling is not real. You can take a stand for God’s Kingdom and help others like yourself overcome the enemy with your testimony. Each word is like a flaming arrow turned against the darkness. Piercing its armor, lighting it up, and reclaiming it for the Lord!
Are you ready to be free of the cage in your mind and become a hero in God’s love story?
